Teach your kids about algorithms and let them know Teach your kids about algorithms and let them know that Social media uses something called an algorithm, which means it watches what they click, like, or watch the longest and then gives them more of that or what is popular. The problem? It doesn’t know what’s good for your brain. It only knows what keeps you scrolling.

Help them understand that the algorithm’s goal is not our well-being but our attention. It rewards what’s extreme, not what’s true. That can lead to distorted ideas about our bodies, worth, and relationships.

It’s okay to enjoy social media, but if they notice they are comparing themselves more, feeling anxious, or seeing the same kinds of content repeatedly, take that seriously. It’s about protecting your mental space.”

Teach them to reflect and ask themselves:
🔹 ‘How does this app make you feel about yourself?’
🔹 ‘Do you feel like you can take a break from it without missing out on real life?’”
Start the conversation early. Keep it going. Their mental health is worth it.
